I don't buy as many mixed compilations anymore. There is barely enough time to keep up with listening to all the MP3s from Beatport. One of the better ones I keep coming back to is Oscar G's Space Miami. It comes with a DVD which films the club and Oscar mixing the music on the CD. Both are superb. Oscar is brilliant. Interspersed with the music and the camera zooming around the club are brief interviews from people that know Oscar and are connected to Space. I don't know who David Orth is. He comes in around the 24 minute mark and only has about a 10 second shot.

Paraphrasing - One of the great things about house music is not everyone gets it. But, if you get in a room with great music and sound and everyone gets it...it's a beautiful thing.

I don't think I can say it any better.

I get it. Do u?

I recently went to see the Harlem Globetrotters. Back in the day, you know, my youth some many, many moons ago, the Globetrotters were A-list celebrities. Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal were household names. I used to watch the Globetrotters on ABC’s Wide World of Sports and marvel at their trick shots and magnetic personalities. Now, as I sat and watched in person a couple decades later, I was left to ponder what happened. Maybe their type of entertainment is only meant for kids and I had outgrown them, but while they performed their routine of running around in circles, passing and juking, as always to the tune of ‘Sweet Georgia Brown,’ they ended all of these possessions with a dunk. As a side note, I’m not tall enough, nor have I ever had the hops to dunk a basketball. And, I have always wanted to. As I sat there, I derived no entertainment from watching these men, mostly all over 6 feet 5 inches tall, dunking at the end of each possession. They weren't even spectacular dunks. While everyone on the court would certainly school me one-on-one, as a paying customer, I expected more chicanery. What happened to the crazy trick shots? The blind half-court heaves? We saw them practice them and even hit a couple. But, they did not bring these out for the ‘game.’ That is liberal use of the term game since the entire event was obviously choreographed. I don’t want to sound too down on the show. I have a 9-5 desk job, and they are entertaining people (kids) all around the world. Would you rather have my job or theirs? But, what got me pondering this was watching the Washington Generals, the patsy team that has lost almost every staged contest against the Globetrotters. They are playing basketball for a living, but are more like actors in a play. Their career is more exciting than mine, but what kind of job is it being a loser all the time? What does it mean if you are riding the bench for the Washington Generals? I don’t like making small talk about my job. It invariably comes up at parties, but what if you had to tell people you were a sub on the Washington Generals? As the kids ate their cotton candy and popcorn, and the Globetrotters showed us they could dunk, I could not help but focus on the Generals’ bench. They probably have a rotation, and everyone gets their turn to start, but I don’t know if that is a job I could ever do. Did you ever see Star Trek II, Wrath of Khan? Kobayashi Maru is the name of a spaceship in a training exercise in the Star Trek fictional universe. The exercise is a simulated no-win scenario. That’s all I could think about as the game went along. Could you be a Washington General and be doomed to lose everyday? Does being a perennial loser, even if it’s only acting, take an effect on your psyche? You tell me.

I am not a professional dj. I don’t have anything important to say. This is not about me. It’s about the music. I hope you enjoy the mixes.

This music isn’t for everyone. There may be an adult reference or something that you should be warned about so don’t say I didn’t tell you. Don’t try this at home, boys and girls. Unless you can turn it up really loud. I would be happy to hear from anyone who wants to get in touch about this or that.

rileysmiley666@hotmail.com

If you like this music, support the artists that make it.

beatport.com

perfectbeat.com

I have been using the Traktor DJ 3 software since May 2006. I like to think I am getting better at it. If you are into the music, I recommend you try it out.

native-instruments.com

That’s it, peeps. Peace
